Big Ideas, Bold Goals, and a Lot of Excitement

At GeoGizmodo, we’re not just transforming the job search and building dream home visualizations-we’re using our learnings to tackle big challenges and make a meaningful societal and safety impact. Recently, we embarked on two ambitious initiatives to collaborate with the U.S. Department of Defense, applying cutting-edge Machine Learning and advanced modeling to areas where innovation can truly make a difference.

We have proposed an open ended SBIR project that explores the application of fractals and AI to support a maintenance related DoD mission. This initiative aligns closely with GeoGizmodo’s expertise and educational foundation, enabling us to approach this complex challenge with confidence. To the best of our knowledge, research in this area is sparse, making it both an exciting and daunting frontier. We believe this problem cannot be fully addressed using modern tools alone-or at least not yet! Our plan is to develop the theoretical framework from scratch and transform it into a fully scalable, practical solution that advances the DoD’s mission.

Even though we’re leading these initiatives, we’re fortunate to be supported by two incredibly diverse and talented professor scientific consultants, who have the necessary experience and expertise to guide us through these projects with numerous grants to their names. Their expertise and dedication are invaluable, and without their contributions, none of this would be possible.

💫 Update (Feb 2025): While this project wasn’t funded this time around, we’re proud to share that we received approval from ALL our reviewers — a huge validation of our vision! 🙌💥

✨ Hope is far from lost — in fact, we’re just getting started.
We’ll be back, stronger and more unstoppable than ever! 🚀💪

Update (Aug 2025):

We are thrilled to announce that GeoGizmodo LLC has been awarded a prestigious Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I Grant by the U.S. Air Force.

This award supports our groundbreaking research into the use of fractals and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) neural networks for next-generation terrain modeling, simulation, and analysis.

Why This Matters

  • Fractals provide a mathematically rich way to model the complexity and self-similarity of natural landscapes.

  • LSTMs, a class of deep learning architectures, allow us to capture long-range dependencies in sequential data—enabling dynamic, realistic, and predictive terrain evolution over time.

Together, these approaches open new possibilities for:

  • Enhanced situational awareness for defense and aerospace applications.

  • Smarter geospatial simulations for mission planning and training.

  • Adaptive terrain prediction models for real-world, time-sensitive operations.

What’s Next

During Phase I, our team will:

  • Develop foundational models combining fractal-based geometry with deep learning.

  • Validate their accuracy and scalability for Air Force use cases.

  • Lay the groundwork for a Phase II transition, where prototypes will be tested and matured into deployable solutions.

At GeoGizmodo, we are committed to pushing the boundaries of science and AI/ML to deliver trustworthy, innovative technologies that matter.
